The Swiss have a soft place in their heart for cows. The Swiss take their dairy products seriously and cows make it possible. Where would we be without cheese fondue and milk chocolate. Swiss cows spend the warm summers up in the mountains and cool winters in lower pastures. Each fall many small mountain villages celebrate the descent of the cows or 'Des Alpes' with a parade of headdress clad cows along with their caretakers as they make their way to greener pastures. We visited the village of St. Cergue to watch the events. Lots of fun, lots of poo. Also helps shed some light on why milk is $6 a gallon here.
